Breast augmentation is perhaps the most popular cosmetic surgical procedure done in the U.S. There were over 350,000 breast augmentations done in 2007.
The goal of the operation is to provide symmetry and proportion to the female torso. A large portion of breast augmentation patients have had pregnancies with subsequent breast feeding, which often leaves a deficit in breast volume. A breast augmentation is a very nice way of correcting that problem restoring the patient back to a normal and feminine body image. The breast augmentation can be accomplished either using a saline implant or a silicone implant. Each have their advantages.
A typical recovery time in a breast augmentation is about six days before returning to work. It takes about four weeks to get back into vigorous athletic activity. This procedure is done as an outpatient procedure, and does not require hospitalization.
